Union minister K Chiranjeevi's brother and film actor Pawan Kalyan launched his political party, Jana Sena (people's army), at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) here on Friday.

Addressing his followers on the occasion, Pawan, as he is popularly known, said he was not after power or positions but vexed at "seeing spineless politicians" who could not raise their voice against the Congress high command.

He was also not against his elder brother Chiranjeevi but was agitated at the way the Congress high command had bifurcated the state.

The actor-turned-politician said he was launching the political party out of love for the country and responsibility to society. "I will not keep quiet if the self-respect of Telugu people is undermined," he said.

Pawan's managers had made elaborate arrangements for broadcasting his address. Giant screens were set up in major towns and cities across the state so that his fans could witness the live telecast of the the party's launch.

Police had a tough time in controlling the actor's fans who thronged the HICC premises in large numbers. They had to even resort to cane charge to disperse the crowd, who tried to enter HICC without passes.

Pawan Says He Will Not Bow Down

Pawan Kalyan made some rather funny statements during his speech being telecast live on channels. Looks like his friend and mentor Trivikram did not give him an appropriate script this time around. He said some rather queer things like ‘house is far, there is no light in hand, road with potholes, but the heart is full of courage’. He said that he would remember Balagangadhar Tilak’s poem since childhood whenever the need arose. He said he was always ahead in fighting corruption and injustice. I am not one to bow down with fear, he said. He said people who were used to touching the feet of bosses in Delhi had brought the state to this condition.

Rahul talks of celibacy

Hanumantha Rao got married thrice. But Rahul did not marry even once. Yet he claims that he is celibate. Is it wrong for a person who has married thrice to come into politics? Is there nothing wrong with people who marry once, but go around with ten people. Aren’t you aware of affairs that politicians have. If someone pokes into my personal affairs, I will disclose their personal details. I don’t own channels or newspapers. But I have fans and social networking site, Pawan said.

Little Matter Blown Out of Proportion

Pawan said the way in which the state was divided was rather shameful. A little affair has been exaggerated, he said. Though he was not against Telangana, he said if the pride of Seemandhra was hurt, he warned of dire consequences. He said that the way the leaders were handling Telangana was really bad. The way the Telangana Bill was tabled in the Parliament was not appropriate.
