The prestigious Cannes Film Festival is all set to throw open its doors to thousands of filmmakers, actors and film buffs from May 14 this year. It’s the world’s most popular film festival and even a brief appearance on the red carpet at Cannes is more than enough to make anyone popular.
Over the past few years, Indian filmmakers have been increasingly trying their best to find a breakthrough in Cannes and last year, Irrfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur starrer Lunchbox won accolades and also a prestigious award at the same film festival. This year, the Indian government has decided to send a delegation to interact with producers from all over the world and Kamal Haasan is going to head the Indian delegation at the Indian pavilion.
Incidentally, Kamal Haasan is the Chairman, FICCI Media and Entertainment Business Conclave and he’ll be inaugurating the pavilion on May 14. “The India Pavilion will be showcasing Indian cinema across linguistic, cultural and regional diversity, with the aim of forging an increasing number of international partnerships in distribution, production, filming in India, script development and technology,” an official press release from FICCI said. It’s indeed a rare honour for Kamal Haasan to be talking about Indian cinema at such a big event
